Halogen 5.0’s FIR Filter Import DSP Block

FIR chainHalogen 5.0’s FIR Import DSP block is available to all four current HAL models.*  The FIR block permits importing finite impulse response (FIR) filter coefficients. To obtain the FIR coefficient’s file, either:

1) Download the applicable FIR file for the loudspeaker from the manufacture’s website – e.g., Fulcrum Acoustics, or

2) Generate the FIR coefficients from measured loudspeaker response data using the software packages that create FIR filters manually:

DR6 touch screen & Web Controls programming in Halogen 5.0

Halogen 5.0 uses the same Control Page Designer interface so you can create control pages, then assign them to Web Controls (smart phones, tablets or PC web browsers) or to one or more DR6 remotes, or to both. Rane EXP2x Dante Programming Intro

EXP2x Dante Expander for the HAL1x

Setting up Rane’s EXP2x requires a different workflow in Halogen than all other HAL devices. In Halogen 5.0 there are only three things to do with the EXP2x. All other set up, routing, naming and troubleshooting steps require Audinate’s Dante Controller software. All parameter settings in the live Dante devices and network are pushed from Dante Controller to the EXP2x. Thus, Halogen software receives real-time updates from the network.

CAF Group Specifications for Rane Amplifiers

Audio product specifications always seem contentious. But they should be more like Cheerios – they are what they are. The trouble with audio specs is that not all companies follow standards on measuring and especially publishing specifications with the detail required to make them useful. To make valid comparisons between different products, or implement them in systems effectively, the details are imperative. It’s still mostly a free-for-all – especially with the exaggerated “marketing” numbers often seen.CAF Group Continue reading

Halogen’s Supported Character Set

Halogen software allows you to use character codes from 0 to 255 in your names and other text fields (including those that appear on DR LCD displays). The character encoding is code page 1252 (CP1252) and the following table shows the supported character set.

To enter any of these Unicode characters in any Halogen field from the keyboard:

  1. Press and hold down the Alt key.
  1. On the numeric keypad type 0 (zero) and then the decimal character code below.
  1. Release the Alt key.

The Rane PAR – Pro Audio Reference

Highlight educationRane has always been about education, not marketing. Twice a year and with no – or at least, not enough – fanfare, Rane owner, Dennis Bohn, updates the Pro Audio Reference on Rane’s website. If you don’t know it, the PAR is an audio dictionary and then some. It’s August first today, so new updates are published. February first is the other release date for new audio items. Here are a few new things:

Inchindown – where the world’s longest reverberant echo is produced. Seventy (yes, 70) to 17 seconds, depending on your soprano sax range.

Halogen Install Hiccup

We’ve had a few customer calls where attempting to install Halogen was halted by Microsoft Windows installer error 2343.

Officially it is Error 2343: Specified path is empty during installation.

CanIn simple terms, this means a location where files must be written to and read from is not available. Either the destination is protected, or just does not exist. Maybe an external or network drive is unavailable.
